The Hockey Show - Episode Ninety-Six

The Hockey Show, Canada's only campus-produced hockey radio show, is slowly closing in 100 shows, making August 7 a big day. Beans and I have been talking a little about what we should do for show #100, and we haven't quite worked out what will happen yet. We do know this, though: there will be a few prizes given away. In the meantime, we'll have at least one incredible guest who we are overly excited about having on the show, we'll definitely have some hockey chatter, and we'll try to keep you entertained if you tune into our l'il ol' program.

Tonight, Beans and I will discuss a number of hockey topics, but the one topic we will not discuss will be Evander Kane. It's no secret that Beans and I have given our opinion on the Jets' superstar and what should and/or shouldn't be done when it comes to his avoidance in answering direct questions about his desire to play in Winnipeg. With his recent appearance on Vancouver radio station The Team 1040 where he didn't answer the question of playing for the Jets with a "yes" or "no", it's now time that we here in Winnipeg realize that Kane will open the season in the Jets' double-blue. Whether or not he finishes the season here is another matter altogether, but with the recent trades of Ryan Kesler and Jason Spezza - and the poor returns those two stars brought Vancouver and Ottawa, respectively - trading Kane now is moot point. Let him play, let him build his trade value through a good season, and then examine possibilities as they arise. Trading him now would net Winnipeg next-to-nothing in terms of returns, and that's not what the Jets want or need at this point in their franchise's history.

With the recent chatter of Gretzky's involvement in a Seattle expansion bid, there seems to be some undertones about the NHL pushing to 32 teams from its current setup of 30 teams. Tonight on 3 Rounds Deep, Beans and I will throw names into the ring and give our thoughts on who the next three expansion cities should be in the NHL! It should be noted that while the NHL is a North American product, they have a worldwide appeal. That means we're not just going to limit this to North American cities. We will open this conversation up to cities across the world!

If you wanna be a part of 3 Rounds Deep tonight, give us a call during the segment at 204-269-8636 (269-UMFM) and we'll put you on the air! Same rules as always as we can't repeat picks made by others and neither can you, so it will get a little tougher as people start participating. We'll start it off, then open up the phone lines and hit Twitter for everyone else to participate. If you want to toss some names in electronically, the Twitter link is below where you can go 3 Rounds Deep!

Going 3 ROUNDS DEEP tonight: the three cities the NHL should consider for expansion! You know what to do!

We will throw some discussion in surrounding the faux Gretzky-led Seattle bid, the recent diagnosis of Bryan Murray's cancer (go get checked!) and what it means for hockey in the nation's capital, AHL realignment and how Charlotte, North Carolina is now a Western Conference team, the new contracts for Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, and Cory Schneider, Steve Ott re-signing with the Blues for two years, Dany Heatley heading to the Ducks for a season, the Jets' development camp, and much, much more! As always, it's a busy night on The Hockey Show!

If you want to give us a listen, please tune us in at 101.5 UMFM on your radio dial in the Winnipeg region or you can listen live between 5:30pm and 6:30pm CT on your web-enabled device at the UMFM webpage! We'll be available via phone at (204) 269-8636 (269-UMFM), so give us a call and play 3 Rounds Deep or share your thoughts on any of the topics we cover! You can tweet us anytime you like by hitting us up at @TeebzHBIC on the Twitter machine. You can also post some stuff to Facebook if you use the "Like" feature, and I always have crazy stuff posted there that doesn't make it to the blog or show.
