The Hockey Show - Episode Sixty-Nine

The Hockey Show returns to the airwaves tonight with the first show of 2014! Beans will be back after fulfilling his family obligations for the holidays, and he's pumped to chat some hockey! Of course, there has been a ton of hockey news and notes from the past week and today! If you missed it, major news out of the World Junior Championships as one of the powerhouses has been sent home after their quarterfinal game! We'll discuss that and more tonight!

If you missed it, the taunt is to the left. The guilty Russian who flies by the American bench is Pavel Buchnevich, a New York Rangers draft pick. The key here is that Buchnevich didn't dipsy-doodle through the American defence before undressing Gillies in the American net. No, he scored AN EMPTY NET GOAL. Kids, if you score an empty net goal, you'd better not celebrate like you just won the Stanley Cup... unless you actually did win the Stanley Cup. Winning a quarterfinal game is hardly the time to be cocky, especially when the powerful Swedes are next on your dance card. Good rule of thumb? Act like you've been there before.

We'll also chat about the rest of the World Junior games tonight, take a look at the Winnipeg Jets and their three-game win streak with Al Montoya in net, the results of the Spengler Cup with an update on Brandon Reid and why he wasn't playing for CSKA Moscow, and we'll preview the University of Manitoba Bisons women's games coming up this weekend against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies as the second-half of the CIS schedule gets underway! If you want to be a part of the show tonight, give us a call at (204) 269-UMFM (269-8636) or tweet us live at @TeebzHBIC. We're on the air at 5:30pm CT on 101.5 UMFM, so join us for some hockey fun!

Until next time, keep your sticks on the ice!
